Care and Correctional Institutions

PCSW is mandated to inspect any jail, sub-jail or other places of custody, where women and girls are kept in order to make appropriate recommendations to the concerned authority or agency. In this context PCSW Chairperson visited Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Rajanpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Muzaffargarh, Multan, Lodhran and Vehari districts from 12th April to 18th April.

During these visit Jails, Dar-ul-Amans, Crisis Centers, working women’s hostels (where these existed) and the state of facilities for women in these institutions were inspected. The visits to South Punjab districts provided an opportunity to introduce the Commission, PCSW Divisional members and the toll free Punjab Women’s Helpline to stakeholders invited to meetings organized by the DCOs. After the visits to Dar-ul-Aman, a report has sent to Secretary Social Welfare Department with observations and suggestions related to policy and procedural matters. The Chair also discussed key issues and strategies for monitoring the status of women with the DCOs, including status of literacy and education, crimes against women and progress on initiatives provided in the Punjab Women’s Empowerment Package 2012/Punjab Women’s Empowerment Initiatives 2014.
