In a formal meeting Ms. Fauzia Viqar thanked Bishop Sebastian Francis Shaw, Chairman Catholic Board of Education for his support to make the campaign successful. She stated that awareness and education about gender equality and human rights are required to change social and cultural norms which perpetuate harmful practices against women. Briefing the gathering about outcomes of the campaign, Ms. Zainab Jafri informed that both students and teachers found the sessions very beneficial and learnt about domestic violence, harassment, cyber crimes and other forms of violence which deprives women of their fundamental rights.
His Grace Bishop Sebastian Francis Shaw also thanked PCSW for taking the initiative in collaboration with CBE and worked in Catholic schools. He asserted that citizens should be made aware of their rights and legislation for their protection. Shield and Report of the Awareness Campaign was presented to Bishop Sebastian Shaw. Bishop also presented a shield to Ms. Fauzia Viqar as a token of gratitude.
U.S. Consul General Elizabeth Kennedy Trudeau also attended the event and said that she is pleased with the joint endeavor of PCSW and Catholic Church for raising awareness about women’s rights. The members of Catholic Board of Education were also present at the occasion.
The Punjab Commission on the Status of Women (PCSW) is a statutory body of the Government of Punjab working for the promotion of women’s rights and to eliminate all forms of violence against women.
